across the Mississippi River
January 15, 1981

Due to the strong current and the temperature of the river plus the chunks of ice in the river,
Canadian Pete McIntyre ultimately decided not to swim across the Mississippi River from
Missouri to Illinois. He did however take a short dip in the river while wearing the wetsuit.

Montreal Fur Trader replica canoes were provided by the Illinois Department of Conservation.
Unfortunately the ice flows in the Mississippi River prevented HikaNation crossing the river
from Missouri to Illinois in these canoes; the Missouri-to-Illinois Wittenberg Ferry was used
instead. The canoes were allowed to be used close to the Illinois shore for a "sample" ride.
