From William Ewart's journal:
About 915pm, wind picked up - violently. Tornado? Lightning and more wind - leaving Scott's tent so I was outside and then went up to my tent during the worst part, yelling "Repent, It's the end of the world. It's The Garden of the Gods, etc." Halfway to tent the entire field lit up - that shut me up. Not much protection in these tents. Most violent storm I've been in on the trip - one ouside of Tonopah Nevada had more lighning but not as much wind. Another storm moved through around 1030-11pm with more lighning and wind.
More arch pain problems - noticed red measley type blotches on both feet (mostly bottoms but extending to ankles and tops of feet) - Shellie thinks it's my blood vessels bursting and recommended tyring steel/metal arch supports to build arch support. Next big town looks like Somerset so will have to check there.
Janet and Jerri got back today after their side trip to Nashville and Chicago. Canadian Pete hitched in to pick up mail and see Gayle and will be going back to Edmunton and then to catch up with us in a few days. Phillipe and Mike H. left Mammoth Cave for the Farm near Nashville. Randy's working in Nashville. So the group is all over the place.
Down to Scott's at 7pm - I was really off tonite on the recorder - kept missing notes. Scott off on small tangentss - twanging single note harmonics, using a lighter for a slide. On 'The Touchsone', Shellie drifting off to sleep said "guitar back up really sounds good". And I jokingly went into the well - "I've never been so insulted, etc.". Trying to apologize she said "it's not that you sound bad...." and I added "it's just you don't sound good either". Laughing really hard as Scott offered his feet to put in her mouth. Earlier I had trouble fingering notes so went into simulated "finger exercises" - a laugh from both of them. Then demonstrated my sign language "skills". Long distnace hiker humor - had to have been there, but the whole sequence was hilarious.
Storm described above followed this music session at Scott's.
