From Doug Marshall:
On our rest day, a group from the Greenville Baptist church took a HikaNation group out to the Peabody Coal strip mine and we got to see the River Queen (world's second largest steam shovel), then on to Paradise where all that was left was a coal powered electric plant and a mine dedicated to the power plant.

From William Ewart's journal:
I skipped the coal mine tour. After groceries at 11am, "Shower lady" came in and took Scott, Tim, Cindy, Janet and I to her house for a shower - turned out to be a bath though. Didn't realize she lived in Central City, a ways away. No matter. She fixed us chili and cornbread!!
Split a 1/2 gallon of Bryers Butter Almond with Mike in the evening. Then I consumed a mass quantity of choc chip cookies the church lady brought for us. Ben tells me eating a lot of sugar eventually causes low blood sugar amount in veins, so you need more sugar to feel good again - the sugar rollercoaster.
Enjoying the bare trees outlined on the blue horizons these days.
My new North Face VE24 Dome didn't make it in today...rats.
